IE Reviews~Celestial Seduction

As you know, we here at the Indie Elite are a diverse group, including middle grade, young adult, and adult authors. Today's review is for the adult readers out there.

I give it:
*****

While on vacation I recently read Jessica E. Subject's Celestial Seduction. If you've never thought of the stars as steamy, this novel will  have you rethinking the entire sci-fi genre. It kept me turning the pages with a strong story line and intriguing characters that I immediately sympathized with and grew to feel deeply fore. While it's certainly not for the under aged, it boasts a great story as well as hot elements, which is not an easy balance to strike with this type of adult fiction.

Here is a bit about it:

At the end of his obligated commitment to the Space Service, Frey Berger decides to stay on Earth to further experience human emotions rather than return to Ginnun where his intended has already mated with another. Looking for real love and someone to accept him for what he is, Frey enlists in Madame Evangeline’s popular dating service. Although he does not understand the concept of a one-night stand, he hopes to find his perfect mate.

Carrie Cooper’s husband divorced her for someone who could provide him with children, leaving her with little self-confidence and no desire to let a man hurt her again. Her best friend convinces her to join a dating service, claiming Carrie needs to get laid, while not winding up with a broken heart since her date requires no commitment after the night is over.

Although several misunderstandings nearly derail them before the date has even begun, Carrie and Frey end up becoming closer than they ever believed possible. Still, Frey will need to convince Carrie that her perfect mate isn’t human at all, and that one night can lead to a forever love.

"To Ride A Puca is an amazing Historical/Fantasy adventure about the Druids of Ireland, and the war they’re waging against the barbaric people known as the Dane, who are trying to take their land and kill all Druids...To Ride A Puca is an awesome, mature YA Historical Fantasy adventure. IE Reviews~Beautiful Demons

It’s time for another non-Indie Elite member (but fabulous indie author) short review. Today’s review is of the first novel in the Peachville High Demons trilogy, Beautiful Demons by Sarra Cannon.

My thoughts:

There aren't many books that can suck me in so immediately and keep me engaged, but this one definitely did. The mystery, the characters, the hint of paranormal, it was all perfectly balanced and wonderfully executed. I'm reminded of another series by a famous author, something about secrets and circles, that will remain unnamed ;), and I've got to say Beautiful Demons is BETTER.

If you enjoy a little magic, a lot of intrigue, and a story that sucks you right in, don’t miss this one. My only complaint, it was a little short. But that’s probably because I was enjoying it so much that I wasn’t ready for it to end.

The Goodreads blurb:

Harper Madison isn't like other girls. She has extraordinary powers, but her inability to control them has gotten her kicked from so many foster homes she's lost count. Shadowford Home is her last chance, and she hopes Peachville High will be the fresh start she needs. But when evidence ties her to the gruesome murder of a Demons cheerleader, Harper discovers this small town has a big secret.

Four IE Members Books have gone FREE

Four of the Indie Elite members currently have novellas that have gone free on Amazon and Barnes and Noble! Grab them up quick because you never know how long Amazon or Barnes and Noble will keep them free!

Born of Fire by Heather McCorkle is FREE on Amazon (hopefully it will go free on Barnes and Noble soon, we'll keep you updated). Here is a bit about it:

The story of the night Aiden was born has never been told, until now. Fleeing the Hunter's, Kevan and Shannon O'Reilly find their way to Spruce Knoll Colorado, assuming they'll be safe in America. Their unborn son is special, even for a druid, or channeler as the American's like to call their kind. But why the Hunter's, people who are sworn to keep their kind safe, are after them is a mystery. All they know is that if they don't outrun them they'll be killed.

Trouble has followed them to Spruce Knoll and just when it seems it may be too late, they discover why.

Dies Irae by Christine Fonseca is FREE on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Here is a bit about it:

Some sacrifices should never be made—even for love.

Mikayel lives by one rule—obey the orders of the angelic Council at all costs. That is, until he and his friends, Azza and Demi, are sent to Earth. Assigned as Watchers while they await their decision of which angelic order to serve, the three assume the bodies of teenagers and experience life as human.

The sensations are overwhelming as the angels experience a host of human emotions—rage, terror, love—and come ever closer to breaking one of the unbreakable rules—never fall in love.

But being human isn’t the only problem facing the three angels. Unbeknownst to the Council, demonic activity is on the rise, threatening to break a tenuous peace that has existed for a millennia; a peace Azza seems bent on destroying.

Caught in a struggle for power with unseen demonic forces and Azza, and fighting against his rising emotional attachment to Demi, Mikayel must now decide how much he is willing to sacrifice for his new found love—a decision that could reignite an ancient war and will threaten the only thing that matters to the angels, the survival of humanity.

Mea Culpa by Christine Fonseca is FREE on Amazon (hopefully it will go free on Barnes and Noble soon, we'll keep you updated). Here is a bit about it:

Everything has a price, especially duty. And love.

Azza's attacks are always deadly...ALWAYS. But that was before Nesy. And before Mikayel and Zane. Now, death has a new enemy. But, what's the cost for saving a life?

MEA CULPA follows one angel's quest to save his best friend. This novella is a bridge between Christine's first full-length novel, Lacrimosa, and her second full-length novel, Libera Me (releasing soon).

Seaweed by Elle Strauss is free on Amazon. Here is a bit about it:

Dori Seward can’t wait to get out of Eastcove, a sleepy fishing village on the border of New Brunswick and Maine. She bides her time by hanging out with friends, attending swim club, and holding her biggest competition, Colby–who wants more than just friendship, at arm’s length.

Then Tor Riley comes to town and he has everything Dori dreams of in a boyfriend–looks, athleticism and mystery.

But Tor also has a tantalizing secret and Dori is determined to find out what it is. The truth is crazier than her wildest imaginations and more dangerous, too. Dori has new enemies, and they will do anything to get to her.

Her life, her dreams and her love for Tor are all weighing in the balance. Will Dori risk it all in order to have it all?

Both Promise (the first full-length novel in the Soul Saver series) and Genesis: A Soul Savers Novella by Kristie Cook, have gone free on Amazon! Here is a bit about them both:

Yvette of the popular Me, My Shelf, and I book blog has reviewed Heather McCorkle's historical fantasy, To Ride A Puca and it received her highest marks. Congrats Heather! Here's is a bit from Yvette:

"I really, really liked this book, so much so that I plan on reading some others written by this author... The story was beautifully written and I at least could feel that I was in the scenes. The love story told here isn’t only between a girl and a boy but between a heart and a homeland and sense of belonging." ~Yvette of Me My Shelf, and I.

IE Reviews~Become

It’s time for another non-Indie Elite member (but fabulous indie author) short review. This week’s review is of Become by Ali Cross.

My thoughts:
*****
This novel was not at all what I thought it would be, and that’s a very good thing. I was expecting another angels and demons book and was honestly kind of dreading it because I already have my favorite angels and demons book (Lacrimosa of course) and I feared I wouldn’t like another nearly as much. Well angels and demons this was NOT. It’s actually a brilliant meld of Norse legend (which I completely love) and angels and demons. My official blurb on it:

From the depths of Helheim to the lofts of Asgard, this novel propels us on a breathtaking journey of self-sacrifice and redemption. The author takes characters that should be impossible to sympathize with and makes you fall in love with them. I was completely swept away and utterly surprised at how much I enjoyed this story.

Here is the Goodreads blurb on it:

Sixteen-year old Desolation Black wants nothing more than to stay in Hell where it’s cold and lonely and totally predictable. Instead, she’s sent back to Earth where she must face the evil she despises and the good she always feared.

When Desi is forced to embrace her inner demon, she assumes her choice has been made—that she has no hope of being anything other than what her father, Lucifer, has created her to be. What she doesn’t count on, is finding a reason to change—something she’s never had before—a friend.

And the sequel, Desolate just released on Amazon!
